Gordon James & Studio M Interiors Partnership

John Quinlivan of Gordon James and Annie Graunke of Studio M Interiors, here! We are excited to partner on a new home design and build this year. The project should be wrapped up in June 2019 and we have been busy working to make this dream home a reality. Over the next half year, we will be documenting this process with videos and blogs. Be sure to follow along to see the process from demo to furnishings.

After our initial client meetings and selections planning, we shot our first episode. So, without further ado, here is part one of our series!

Gordon James’ jokes that Studio M handles everything from “countertops to cabinets”, but the build team is still very much a part of the selections process and client meetings. We are working with Ben Nelson of Ben Nelson Residential Design, which has been a great experience so far. He has a really unique approach and style that we find fits our work method and the needs of our client.

The home will be located on beautiful Lake Minnetonka. Both of our teams have experience designing family-friendly homes with a lake-style feel — we are in the land of 10,000 lakes, after all! It’s always fun designing a space for a family because as you go through the selections process, you have to think about the function of every piece. We know the upstairs will include bunk beds for family and friends and that there will be a big farm sink by Kohler in the heart of the kitchen. Key features like these mean a lot to the future homeowners, so we can’t wait to give them the perfect family spaces.

When the Gordon James team sees a home on a lake, we can’t help but get excited about the opportunities for indoor-outdoor living. We will install bifold doors from the kitchen to the lake for a stunning view. John says the stone tile in that space is really “over-the-top”, so you’ll have to stay tuned to see that! Some other unique features that we have selected are a Tile By Design tile for the mudroom floor and a stunning carrara design from RBC Tile and Stone.

Next up, we plan for potential reselections to make sure we stay within our client’s vision and budget, and then it’s demolition time!
